My Honest Review of the DreamCloud Hybrid Mattress

It has been a long time since I've tried a new mattress. I've been sleeping on a Purple mattress for a long time, and I have no complaints except for how sometimes the gel grid pattern feels really prominent. Small fish kind of stuff. And like any good-natured side-sleeper who has slept in a dorm room or been banished to a cheap pull-out sofa (none like our picks, of course), I too have been scarred by coils before.
DreamCloud's Premier Rest Hybrid mattress promised coil support coils without the lumps and memory foam's softness without the heat-trapping. Though, I've also heard that hybrids can tend to do both things kind of well and neither thing perfectly. After sleeping on the Premier Hybrid, I think it did deliver on that original promise, though I have come away with hangups I wasn't expecting, too.

- Medium firmness
- Soft enough for side sleepers
- Great price for this range of sofa
- Brutal set-up
- Edges a bit flimsy
- Corners don't feel fully expanded

Right out of the box, I thought the mattress was pretty. Not that anyone's going to be spending that much time looking at an undressed mattress but I appreciated it, so maybe that counts. It has a super soft quilted top that looks kind of old-school, like something you might've jumped on in a mattress store back in the day. But the comparisons end there: it feels super soft, with a bit of plush on first feel.
Sleep-wise, it doesn't feel too soft, though—not like, I-physically-can't-get-out-of-bed soft. I have no particular complaint, but something about it feels cheap. After using it for a while, I began thinking it might be that there's not a ton of edge support, so you really kind of slump toward the corners. This, to me, feels like what you might get at a mid hotel. It's fine, technically, but the edges feel under-considered.
Who is it Best For?I would say it's really best for problem-free sleepers (no ailments that require extra mattress consideration, like ongoing back pain or what have you) who tend to sleep in the middle of the bed rather than those who drift toward the edge. I've taken quite a bit of naps face down in the middle of the bed, and I've had no issues doing that. But on a nightly basis, I'm a side sleeper who tends to teeter on the edge. This, of course, is only made more difficult by a sleeping partner who is pushing you off the bed (not you pushing your partner off the bed, we know you'd never do that).
So that's to say: problem-free sleepers who sleep in the middle of the bed and who have partners who do the same. If you don't care about a flimsy edge support, then it is otherwise a comfortable experience. It's also a reasonable price point. It's not a budget mattress, but it's also not $3,000. So for a bit of an upgrade for the right kind of sleeper, this could be great.
The HangupsHonestly, my biggest gripe with this mattress has almost nothing to do with the mattress itself. I've gotten a bit used to these bed-in-a-box companies having in-home set-up and an option to remove an old mattress. There is the option for a White Glove Delivery, but I of course did not consider this beforehand and found I had to search a bit to find if it was even an option. That is on me, but I do think it's a big pro for other companies that have this included.
Also on the set-up: I cannot believe this mattress is only 86 pounds because after having to enlist my family to help me move it, it seemed far heavier than this. Unfortunately I don't have a gigantic scale in which I can fact check this number, but I triple checked because it felt heavy and cumbersome to move.
For the correct fluff-up you do have to give the mattress 72 hours to fully release out of its stuffed shell before sleeping on it. This is generally normal for beds-in-boxes and I know many people who ignore this completely, particularly those who have one bed and are not trying to sleep on the floor.
The Final VerdictI think this mattress is, overall, good. I think the slumped corners and edges make the whole thing feel a little meh, but the bulk of the mattress feels comfortable and supportive. Also, I love the quilt top a ton. Though I want support, feeling like you're climbing onto something soft every time is a win. What's important to remember here though is price point. A lot of options that are cheaper are not as good. A lot of options that are more expensive have similar issues, unless you get to the over $5,000 range. All in all, you get exactly what you pay for here and a good nights sleep.
