Erin Bates Is "On the Road to Recovery" After Septic Shock Hospitalization

Erin Bates is recovering from a terrifying health crisis.

“With tears in our eyes, we are praising the Lord that we are on the road to recovery,” Chad wrote on Instagram Sept. 6 alongside a video of the reality star awake and giving kisses to their baby boy. “Your prayers have definitely touched heaven.”
The 34-year-old’s health update comes just two days after her husband shared that Erin had suffered a “lengthy and severe seizure” and was admitted to the ICU after developing a severe UTI and kidney infection, which sent her into septic shock, shortly after giving birth.
"Up to this point, Erins infection was getting better, but we found ourselves back in a place of heartache, uncertainty, and tears," Chad—who also shares kids Carson, 10, Brooklyn, 8, Everly, 7, Holland, 5, Finley, 3, William, 22 months, with Erin—wrote on Instagram Sept. 4. "The doctors are running scans and tests to determine the cause. Erin is extremely weak and spent hours only half conscious."
“As her husband, it is one of the hardest things I’ve ever faced—to sit by her side and watch her struggle while being so helpless to ease her suffering,” he continued. “I love her more deeply than words can express, and I can’t even imagine life without my best friend."
Along with Chad, many of the reality star’s 18 siblings also came together to support Erin amid her hospitalization.
Sharing a photo of Henry in her arms, Erin's older sister Michaela Bates Keilen said she and her family have been "overwhelmed with gratitude for the outpouring of love, concern and prayer."
"A huge thank you to every who has been praying for my sister Erin and her family over the past few days," she wrote on Instagram Sept. 4. "Tho I have not been able to respond to every message please know that the comments, texts, and messages have touched our hearts deeply and we are so grateful."

In the comments section, Whitney Bates—the wife of Erin's older brother Zachary Bates—wrote that the couple is "continuing to send Erin all our love and praying so hard for her."
Meanwhile, a few of her other siblings expressed their support for Erin and Chad under his Sept. 4 update on Erin’s health.
While her younger sister Katie Bates Clark wrote that she and husband Travis Clark are “praying for you,” her younger brother Lawson Bates added that he and his wife Tiffany Espensen are “Continuing to pray every day for a miraculous healing.”

South Carolina state wrestling champ William Gilvin “Gil” Bates met lab assistant Kelly Bates (née Callaham) at South Carolina Christian liberal arts school Anderson University, when she was tasked with tutoring him in Chemistry. Proving they had plenty of it, he proposed in October 1987, while they were finishing up college at Tennessee’s Carson-Newman University. Marrying just two months later, the couple didn’t intend on having a large brood, but neither believed in birth control. “We both came to the conclusion that we just wanted to trust God with how many children we had,” Gil told Dateline in 2011, admitting they assumed they’d cap out at two or three.
Eldest son Zachary Bates was born a year after their wedding; their 19th child—son Jeb Bates—arrived in 2012. As for rattling off the names of their oversized brood, Kelly joked of Gil, who runs excavating company Bates Tree Service, "Oh, Daddy's good at that. His memory's better than mine."
