Dog the Bounty Hunter's Stepson on Psychiatric Hold After Son's Death

Gregory Zecca is struggling to cope with a traumatic experience.
After he shot and killed his 13-year-old son Anthony during an accidental shooting, the stepson of Duane "Dog" Chapman has been placed on psychiatric hold because he is so devastated by the loss of his child, a rep for the family told TMZ July 21.
Zecca—who is the son of the Dog the Bounty Hunter star's wife Francie Frane and her late husband—has been placed on a 5150 psychiatric hold, according to the rep, meaning he has been involuntarily detained for 72 hours due to having a mental health disorder, being a danger to himself, being a danger to others or being gravely disabled.
The rep clarified to TMZ that Zecca's hold is a result of his grief over the tragedy and not because he feels guilty of a crime in relation to the shooting.
Zecca fatally shot his son on July 19 at their apartment in Naples, Fla. Two days later, the Collier County Sheriff’s Office shared they are conducting a “death investigation” in connection with the shooting, which they described as an "isolated incident."
“Our detectives are conducting a thorough investigation looking into all the elements of this tragic incident,” the police department wrote in a July 21 statement to E! News. “The investigation includes statements from witnesses who were at the scene, forensic testing, subpoenas, and search warrants.”
And while Zecca has yet to publicly address the accident, his mom and stepdad have since spoken out on the family's untimely loss.
"We are grieving as a family over this incomprehensible tragic accident,” reps for Chapman and Frane wrote in a statement to TMZ July 19, “and would ask for continued prayers as we grieve the loss of our beloved grandson, Anthony."

Fans know Duane Chapman—a.k.a. Dog the Bounty Hunter—from his numerous TV shows, including Dog the Bounty Hunter, Dog & Beth: On the Hunt co-starring his late wife Beth Chapman and Dog's Most Wanted.
Off air, his personal life has oftentimes felt like a reality show, too. After all, he’s been married five times—sharing unions wiht La Fonda Sue Honeycutt, Ann Tegnell, Lyssa Rae Brittain, Beth and Francie Frane—and has 13 children.
Jon is the oldest of Dog's children. However, the reality star wasn't always aware he had another son.
"For the last four years, this day was a terrible reminder of one of the greatest losses of my life," Dog wrote on Instagram in June 2023 while remembering Beth's passing. "But God redeemed this day when I discovered my son Jon, who I just met recently, was born on this day. So now instead of sorrow, this day has a new meaning. This is my son Jon and his wife Jodi."
However, Jon isn't the only son Dog had limited contact with.
According to People, Dog's son Christopher Hecht with ex-girlfriend Debbie White was born in 1972 while Dog was serving time in prison after being convicted of murder (he has said he did not commit the crime). Per the outlet, Christopher was later placed for adoption.
Over the years, Christopher has had a few run-ins with the law. In 2021, for instance, he was sentenced to three years in prison for a 2020 menacing arrest, according to The Sun.
Born in 1973 and named after his dad, Duane Jr. is Dog’s son from his first marriage to La Fonda. And just like his father, he became a bounty hunter and appeared on his dad’s shows. But these days, he’s keeping his life offscreen.
Also born during Dog's marriage to La Fonda was son Leland, who arrived in 1976.After appearing on his dad’s TV shows, Leland followed in his dad’s footsteps.
“Still bounty hunting,” Dog wrote in a December 2024 Instagram post, “chip off the old block.” In addition to being a bounty hunter, Leland is a dad. According to Us Weekly, he welcomed sons Dakota and Cobie with first wife Maui Chapman and later welcomed daughter Leiah with ex Lynette Yi. He’s now married to Jamie Chapman.
After Dog's marriage to La Fonda ended, he wed Ann Tegnell.
According to People, the couple welcomed sons Zebediah and Wesley in 1980 followed by son James in 1982.
For his part, Wesley is a rancher at Chapman Springs Ranch in Idaho, the COO of the interior design studio Loft Thirty One as well as the founder of the event The Human Gathering. He is married to Jodie Chapman.
As for his older brother Zebediah, the outlet noted he passed away as a baby. James, meanwhile, keeps his private life out of the spotlight.
During his third marriage to Lyssa Rae, Dog welcomed kids Barbara, Tucker and Lyssa.
However, Barbara was killed in a car accident in Fairbanks, Alaska, on the eve of Dog and Beth’s wedding in 2006, according to Hawaii News Now. She was 23 years old.
“She was the original Goth Barbie, rainbow, sailor moon loving, Broncos obsessed, gender blurring human being,” her sibling Lyssa wrote in a 2023 Instagram post. “She wasn’t one thing, she was everything all at once. Animals loved her, she loved them back and most of all she loved life. She said what she thought, she slept as long as she wanted, swore like a sailor, she had the hottest boyfriends (and a few girlfriends) I have about a pinky’s worth of her coolness in me. Miss you my sister.”
Since exiting Dog the Bounty Hunter, Tucker (born in 1983) has lived a more private life. However, he's opened up about the challenges he's faced.
"I am a crash test dummy for recovery," he wrote in a May 2025 Instagram post. "From addiction, from the criminal justice system, from bad choices that leads to uncaring rehabs, jaded probationary officers and over and over again."
And he hopes his journey can help others."If you want something done right, sometimes you have to do it yourself," Tucker continued. "And because I was there, I know the pit falls of the life. I'm working my way to my dreams of helping others that are in the never ending circle of addiction, crime and punishment."
Lyssa, born in 1987, is aptly named after mom Lyssa.
As a teen, the reality star welcomed daughter Abbie. Lyssa then married Brahman Galanti in 2009, and they added daughter Madalynn to the family later that year. However, the couple divorced two years later and Lyssa went on to marry Leiana Evensen in Hawaii in 2022.
In 2006, Dog wed Beth. Together, they raised three children: Bonnie Chapman, Garry Chapman and Cecily Chapman.
In 2017, Beth was first diagnosed with stage 2 throat cancer and, after going into remission, her cancer returned the following year. She died in 2019 at the age of 51.
Like her siblings, Bonnie (born in 1998) appeared on Dog the Bounty Hunter. But these days, she's sharing less about bounty hunting and more about her fitness journey with fans.
"I've been trying to lose weight since I was probably 18 years old," she exclusively told E! in 2024. "And it was just very frustrating to constantly be trying, constantly be putting in the work. I've been on a Mediterranean diet. I've been on a Paleo diet. I've been on diets all my life, and I needed something that would show me results."
So, she gave injectables a shot for weight management, hitting her goal weight of 130 pounds (down from her 196 peak) with Tirezepatide.
"I'm not going to lie, I cried a couple times," the influencer shared, "because I was like, wow, this is what I wanted my entire life."
However, Bonnie and Dog have faced ups and downs in their relationship. Like when she and sister Cecily told TMZ in 2021 they were not invited to his wedding to Francie.
After Dog and Beth wed, he adopted her daughter Cecily (born in 1993) from a previous relationship. And Cecily looked up to her father so much that she even followed in his footsteps to become a bail agent.
"Happy Birthday Cecily," Dog wrote in a June 2025 Instagram post. "I'm So Proud Of The Woman You Have Become And So Blessed GOD Chose Me To Be Your Dad!"
In addition to appearing on Dog the Bounty Hunter, Garry (born in 2001) gives fans glimpses into his world on social media, sharing posts about his faith, life with wife Nicole Chapman, fitness journey and his career in law enforcement.
Dog and Francie met as they were both navigating grief, with her husband passing away six months before Beth.
"We understood the pain that the other one was feeling and [in] those tough days and moments, we helped each other stand up," Francie told Entertainment Tonight in 2020. "We were able to walk alongside each other through the pain and heartbreak and it brought us together in this amazing way."
They went to church for their first date and quickly formed a connection. They got engaged in May 2020 and wed the following year. And Dog felt like they were the perfect match both personally and professionally.
"She's a hunter," he told Dr. Oz in 2020. "Her and her two sons have hunted, bow hunted. So they track, they look for things they prey leaves behind. So she's kind of a natural. She just fit right in."
