How to get financial aid to pass your driving licence in Spain in 2025

Learning to drive can be expensive, but thankfully there are some regions in Spain that offer grants and subsidies to help.
If you’re a young person in Spain who has never driven before, you never got around to learning to drive or you’ve moved here from a country that doesn’t have a licence agreement with Spain, you might be considering taking your Spanish driving test.
Getting your driving licence in Spain can be expensive as it can cost up to €1,400, an amount that many young people in particular can’t afford on top of rent, studies and other costs.
The good news is that many regions in Spain offer grants or subsidies to help pay for the costs of getting your licence.
Andalusia Offers subsidies for people who want to get a truck licence only. They must be residents of the region, have a B license, and be unemployed.
Aragón In Aragón you can get help to get C and D licenses, which are for trucks and buses. Grants given can be up to €2,000 per person .
Balearic Islands As part of the Employment Service of the Balearic Islands, there is a free training programme for employed and unemployed people to attend driving schools. It includes preparation for the D driving licence exam for buses, as well as road taxes.
Basque Country There are no specific regional aid programmes, but certain municipalities do have them. They include Vitoria, Eibar and Erandio.

Cantabria Offers residents a discount of up to €200 for those who obtained their driver's licence during the previous year. The requirements include being registered in Cantabria, being between 16 and 30 years old, and having obtained a driving license within the timeframe stipulated by the regional government.
Catalonia Catalonia has introduced an aid plan for young people between the ages of 18 and 29 who are in precarious situations. It offers a grant of up to €15,120 that can be used to obtain a driver's licence, as well as housing etc.
Extremadura Extremadura launched an aid plan in 2025 that can reach up to €1,300. To access this aid, you must be registered in Extremadura, be unemployed, or have precarious employment. The programme offers discounts for all types of licences. Those who want to get a type B license (regular cars) can receive up to €600 and those who want C or D licences can receive up to €1,100 . Finally, for the C & E licences, the aid reaches €1,300.

Galicia In Galicia young people who got their driver's licence within the previous year can apply for aid. Authorities there offer a subsidy of up to €400 for a B licence, €600 for a C license, and up to €1,300 for a D licence. You must have lived in Galicia for at least a year and be unemployed.
The regions that haven’t been listed have either already ended their aid programmes or never introduced them in the first place.
