Actor Jude Law has remained a Hollywood heartthrob ever since his performance in the 2006 Nancy Meyers rom-com The Holiday. In real life, the British star is a family man, who has been married to his second wife, Phillipa Coan, since 2019. Despite being a world-famous celebrity, Law has managed to keep much of his relationship with Coan private, but he’s given several hints about the strength of their romance in interviews over the years. Here, we explore everything you need to know about Law’s wife, from how they met to where they stand today.
Coan is a psychologist and behavior expertLaw’s wife doesn’t work in the entertainment industry. Instead, Coan is a business psychologist and behavior change expert with a doctorate from the University of Leeds in England. According to the institution’s website, her research “focused on understanding and changing employee behavior to be more environmentally sustainable.” A respected researcher in her field, Coan was awarded multiple accolades during her studies, winning the Business School’s Postgraduate Researcher of the Year Award twice and earning a place on the college’s Roll of Honor List for Women of Achievement.
She is also the founder of Stride, a company that “combines best practice psychology with energy management expertise to save organizations energy, carbon, and money through employee engagement and behavior change.”

In a November 2024 GQ profile, Law shared all of the positive ways in which his wife’s vocation and training had impacted their romance. “Phil’s a psychologist,” the Eden actor told the outlet. “So we enjoy a very healthy relationship where we talk a lot about how we feel, our relationships with friends, relationships with our families, and she has a wonderful perspective on all of that.”
Law and Coan started dating in 2015The Hollywood actor was first linked to Coan in May 2015, when the pair attended The Hay Festival of Literature and Arts together. “He’s serious about her,” a source told The Daily Mail (as reported by Hello! magazine) at the time. “He loves how intelligent Pippa is and finds it refreshing to date a girl who is not from his showbiz world. He’s pretty smitten and doesn’t want to mess it up.”
The actor’s 2024 GQ profile revealed that he “met Phillipa not long before filming The Young Pope...for fans of his work, it seemed Law had found some new gear. Perhaps it was just love: between filming, he and Phillipa were exploring Italy together.” It seems that the couple has been pretty much inseparable since then.
Their relationship quickly became seriousIn his January/February 2017 cover story for Modern Luxury, the Spy actor showed how serious he was about Coan, declaring (as reported by W), “She’s mine and no-one else’s. I’m very, very happy.” Law continued, “A large part of that is the fact that she’s a very private person...our relationship is a very private thing, and I think part of the fact it works so well is exactly because of that.”

Coan ignited engagement rumors after being spotted wearing a diamond ring in February 2019. Just two months later, on April 30, 2019, Coan and Law tied the knot in a low-key London wedding at The Old Marylebone Town Hall. In photographs of the newlyweds obtained by Us Weekly, the bride could be seen wearing an ivory ruffled minidress, accessorized with pink pointed-toe suede pumps and a bunch of wild flowers. The groom opted for a navy corduroy suit, aquamarine suede brogues, a fedora, and gold-rimmed sunglasses with purple lenses.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Law and Coan welcomed their first child together—the actor’s sixth overall. Appearing on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, the actor called the new arrival “really wonderful.” He continued, “We feel pretty blessed that we were in a time where we could, as a family, just nest and enjoy each other’s company and every day as it came...it was an unusual but kind of enforced love-in.”
In early 2023, it was reported that Law and Coan had welcomed a second child together, after they were photographed at London’s Heathrow Airport with a baby. The couple has kept the names of their two children a secret, and they also haven’t confirmed the arrival of their second child, People reported.
Proving that she’s close with her husband’s other children, Coan appeared alongside Rafferty and Iris Law—whom the actor shares with his first wife, actress Sadie Frost—when Law received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in December 2024. Discussing just how important it was having his children by his side at such a prestigious event, Law told People, “They were just lovely. I mean, they’re always so supportive and loving. We are very lucky to have each other, but they’re my backbone.”

Law is also a father to Rudy, his third child with Frost. He shares a daughter, Sophia, with ex-girlfriend Samantha Burke, and another daughter, Ada, with former partner Catherine Harding, according to InStyle.
Law feels “incredibly safe and secure” with CoanDespite keeping their relationship largely out of the spotlight, Law has gotten candid about his romance with Coan on several occasions. In his 2024 profile for GQ, the Alfie actor said of his wife, “Meeting Phil and falling in love with her and the relationship we’ve been in has been a huge influence on my life. I’ve never felt happier. I’ve never felt more supported.”
Reflecting on some of the most meaningful aspects of his marriage, Law told the publication, “And my home has felt incredibly safe and secure. I don’t want this to sound like it never was before, but when you meet someone particular and you click and they understand your work and your needs, you are in a good place. So I felt hugely nurtured by that and by her.”
GQ also noted that Coan and the couple’s two young children join Law “wherever in the world he is filming,” suggesting that they’re never apart for very long.
Coan occasionally supports Law at glitzy Hollywood eventsWhile Coan’s career is fairly far removed from Hollywood, she has accompanied her actor husband to a number of high-profile events throughout their relationship. For instance, Law and Coan were spotted leaving their hotel ahead of the Met Gala on May 6, 2024, but the psychologist didn’t walk the red carpet with her husband. As reported by Us Weekly, the Contagion star joined actor Andrew Scott and designer Donatella Versace in front of the cameras, while Coan presumably supported her husband behind the scenes.

The pair has also been known to enjoy attending Wimbledon together, and Coan supported Law at the Venice Film Festival premiere of his movie The Wizard of the Kremlin on Aug. 31, 2025.
While the psychologist is clearly supportive of her husband’s career, that doesn’t necessarily mean she’s watched all of his films. While promoting Captain Marvel, Law joked to Extra, “I would tell my partner, but she doesn’t know what I’m talking about. She’s never seen a Marvel movie. She’s a doctor.”
