Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are going to be each other’s endgame. The couple announced that they are engaged with an Instagram post. “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married 🧨,” Swift wrote alongside a series of photos of her with Kelce. The news comes after a source told Entertainment Tonight over a year ago—on May 17, 2024, to be exact—that the couple’s inner circle saw a proposal coming. The insider said then, “Taylor and Travis are doing amazing, and their loved ones see an engagement coming sooner than later. They make a great match and there’s no question about that.”

Swift and Kelce started dating secretly during summer 2023 after Kelce spoke on his podcast, New Heights, about his failed attempt to give her a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it during her Kansas City Eras Tour show that July. In September 2023, they publicly revealed their relationship when Swift attended a Kansas City Chiefs football game, and the two held hands after.

Swift told Time in December 2023 that their romance “started when Travis very adorably put me on blast on his podcast, which I thought was metal as hell.” She continued, “We started hanging out right after that. So we actually had a significant amount of time that no one knew, which I’m grateful for, because we got to get to know each other. By the time I went to that first game [on September 24], we were a couple. I think some people think that they saw our first date at that game? We would never be psychotic enough to hard launch a first date.”

Kelce first spoke in detail about Swift during a November 2023 interview with WSJ magazine. He shared she reached out to him after hearing the friendship bracelet story. “She told me exactly what was going on and how I got lucky enough to get her to reach out,” he said.

He said he kept his cool on their first date. “When I met her in New York, we had already kind of been talking, so I knew we could have a nice dinner and, like, a conversation, and what goes from there will go from there,” he recalled.

He has since offered effusive praise of her. Even then, he told WSJ, “I’ve never been a man of words. Being around her, seeing how smart Taylor is, has been fucking mind-blowing. I’m learning every day.”
