Pete Davidson and Elsie Hewitt turned his latest movie premiere into a date night. On July 27, the couple attended the Los Angeles premiere of Davidson’s new action-comedy, The Pickup, which also stars Keke Palmer and Eddie Murphy. This marked their first red carpet appearance since announcing earlier this month that they’re expecting their first child.
“I mean, it’s the most exciting thing ever,” Davidson said in an interview with Extra about becoming a father. “I don’t even really have words. I’m just so excited about it, and I just can’t wait for it. I feel like I’m finally in a place where I’m ready for it.”
He also shared an update on Hewitt. “She’s good,” he said. “She’s a trouper. She’s a strong woman. You know, she has endo[metriosis], so she’s no stranger to pain. But she’s smiling all the time, keeping me smiling. So, we’re good.”
Davidson went on to discuss some tips he received from his Pickup co-stars. “[Eddie’s] advice was the best,” he said. “He goes, ‘I have no advice because you can’t really tell anybody how to raise their own kid. But it’s going to change your life and you’re going to love it, and I’ll know you’ll be good at it.’ So, I mean, that’s a cool thing to get from your idol, you know?”
Palmer also showed him that it’s possible to balance parenting with work. “What was cool is when we were doing The Pickup, Keke’s baby was just born,” Davidson recalled, “and she had him on set the whole time. She would go into a take, and then run over and play with the baby. It made me realize it’s possible to co-exist in both worlds. I was really impressed with her…the way she was parenting on set.”
The Pickup will start streaming on Prime Video on August 6.
