Ransom Canyon Season 2: What We Know So Far

Westerns are in right now. Just look at the ever-growing Yellowstone universe; it’s clear that audiences are craving stories about cowboys, no matter what century they’re in. So, it makes perfect sense Netflix would add its own version to the mix with Ransom Canyon.
Based on Jodi Thomas’s book series, the show stars Josh Duhamel as Staten Kirkland, the forlorn owner of Double K ranch in Texas. After the death of his son—years after losing his wife—Staten re-emerges into society, eager to learn the truth about his son’s tragic passing. He’s also at odds with his father, Senator Sam Kirkland (Brett Cullen), who, along with Staten’s brother-in-law Davis (Eoin Macken), hopes to convince ranch owners in the area to turn over their land to a greedy corporation, Austin Water & Power. And of course, there’s romance too. Staten has a burgeoning relationship with a local dancehall manager, Quinn, played by Minka Kelly.
With 10 episodes in its first season, it’s a quick and riveting watch for viewers looking for a love story mixed with small-town drama, like Netflix’s other longtime hit Virgin River. If the show gets a similar response, who knows? Netflix could be looking at another long-running success story.
But for now, Ransom Canyon viewers are probably eager for news about a second season. There are a number of cliffhangers left to keep the show going, including Staten and Quinn’s shaky relationship and the future of his ranch. Here’s what we know about the future of Ransom Canyon so far.
Will Ransom Canyon be renewed for season 2?For now, there’s no word on season 2. But that doesn’t mean the show is canceled.
The show just premiered on Netflix (on April 17) and it’s unclear when a renewal announcement might arrive. If it’s an immediate hit, it could be a matter of days, but we’ve also seen Netflix wait for a new release to gain more traction before ordering another season.
Viewers don’t have to worry about where the story will go, however. Jodi Thomas wrote nine books, including a prequel, about the Ransom Canyon universe. Each title follows various townspeople and their love lives, similar to how Bridgerton explores various members of the close-knit British high society and their romances. Ransom Canyon could delve deeper into Staten’s story, but it could also jump around and introduce new characters entirely. There’s no shortage of stories to tell.
Regardless of the show’s status, we’ll keep an eye out for any news and update as we hear more.
