Kristin Chenoweth, Lea Michele, and Nichelle Lewis Take Us Behind the Scenes of <i>Three Generations of Broadway</i>

In the theater world, few spaces are as sacred as Lincoln Center. Home of the Metropolitan Opera, the New York Philharmonic, the Juilliard School, the New York City Ballet, and Lincoln Center Theater, it’s a true artistic mecca. Most performers know the power of the location, including Kristin Chenoweth, Lea Michele, and Nichelle Lewis, who recently came together to film ELLE’s new series, Three Generations of Broadway. “This is hallowed ground,” Chenoweth says early in the interview.

One of the crown jewels of Lincoln Center is the Vivian Beaumont Theater, the only Broadway venue not nestled within New York’s Theater District. Here, the three aforementioned stars engage in a conversation about their big breaks and the state of the industry, among other topics. They’re seated in the lobby of the theater, as the Ragtime set is taking shape inside. (Ragtime is the first show under Lincoln Center Theater’s new artistic leadership, and Lewis stars as Sarah in the already well-received production.)

To get ready for the chat, Chenoweth, who stars as Jackie Siegel in The Queen of Versailles, Michele, who takes on the role of Florence Vassy in Chess, and Lewis get glammed up in the dressing rooms Lewis will soon inhabit, situated below the theater. Once ready to go, the ladies make their way upstairs to the lobby, featuring a brand-new carpet.
