Everything We Know About the Film Adaptation of Colleen Hoover's Regretting You
Another one of Colleen Hoover’s hit novels is getting a film adaptation. After It Ends With Us, starring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, took over theaters, Hoover’s 2019 book Regretting You is coming to the silver screen, too. So far, the prospects are looking good.
Here’s everything we know about the upcoming adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s Regretting You.
What will Regretting You be about? The novel follows a mother and daughter duo, Morgan Grant and Clara. Morgan gave birth to Clara when she was quite young and ended up having to pause her own dreams to be a parent. Most of the story focuses on Clara’s teen years, when her father Chris dies in a tragic accident, leading to tension and conflict in their mother-daughter relationship.
“Regretting You is told from a dual point-of-view centered on the inner lives of both a teen and adult protagonist,” Hoover told Have Coffee Need Books. She added, “I wanted to write a book that bridged the gap between young adult and contemporary romance so that mothers can read with their daughters.”
Who is in the cast?Per Deadline, Allison Williams, McKenna Grace, and Dave Franco are cast as major characters in the movie. Williams will play Morgan, and Grace will play Clara, Morgan’s daughter. Franco will play Jonah, Morgan’s new love interest, after the tragic loss of her husband. Mason Thames will play Miller, Clara’s love interest. On March 18, The Hollywood Reporter also revealed that Scott Eastwood was added to the cast.
The script was written by Susan McMartin (After, Leanne). Josh Boone, known for his work on The Fault in Our Stars, has been brought aboard to direct.
When is Regretting You coming out?You can catch the film only in theaters on Oct. 24, 2025.
