Diesel spill closes east-London intersection after multi-vehicle crash Monday morning

A busy east-London intersection is closed Monday morning after a serious multi-vehicle crash led to a diesel spill in the area.

At around 7 a.m. at the intersection of Fanshawe Park Road and Clarke Road, two vehicles were involved in a crash with a large commercial truck.

One person had to be removed from a vehicle by the fire department, and two people were taken to hospital, according to London Fire Department Platoon Chief Colin Shewell.

Crews have been able to contain a 200 litre diesel spill, Shewell said, and cleanup is ongoing.

"At this point the area is closed and there is no risk to public safety in the immediate area," Shewell said, adding that the police investigation into the cause and circumstances of the accident will likely take a long time.

Police were on the scene Monday morning, and have given no timeline for reopening the intersection, except to say it will be hours.
