Trump Gives TikTok 90 More Days

US President Trump announced on his Truth Social account that he signed the executive order granting TikTok an additional 3 months. In his statement, Trump said, "I just signed the Executive Order that will extend the closing date of TikTok by 90 days (until September 17, 2025)." Trump made a similar decision on April 4, announcing that he gave the social media platform 75 days and stated that he was in favor of keeping the application open.
TIKTOK DEBATE IN THE USA
TikTok was banned in the US on January 19 under a law that stipulated that it would be banned in the US unless it was sold to an American company, and access to the app was reopened the same day. US President Trump signed an executive order suspending the implementation of this law for 75 days on his first day in office. Stating that he was not in favor of banning TikTok but wanted 50 percent of it to be transferred to a US company in order for the ban to be lifted, Trump said, “We have the right to sell or shut down TikTok. We will decide on that. China’s approval is also needed, but I’m sure they will approve it. If they don’t, we will impose tariffs on China.” Trump also noted that if an agreement was not made for TikTok to be acquired by a US company, he could extend the deadline given for this application, and gave the message that China could reduce the tariffs to the Beijing administration in return for approving the purchase of the app.
