According to a reliable AMD leaker, the hardware specifications for the PlayStation 6 and Xbox Magnus (the next-generation Xbox) are now finalized. Initial reports suggest that Microsoft's new console could outperform Sony's system in all games.
SOURCE OF THE LEAK: AMD
The leaks surfaced on the technology forum NeoGAF. User KeplerL2, known for his previous accurate posts about AMD, confirmed the information shared by YouTuber "Moore's Law is Dead." According to KeplerL2, the design and technical hardware for both consoles are now complete, and production planning has begun.
XBOX MAGNUS STANDS OUT WITH ITS HARDWARE SUPERIORITY
According to the leak, the PlayStation 6 will offer fewer CPU cores, lower processor frequency, fewer GPU units (CUs), fewer ROPs (Render Output Units), lower GPU frequency, smaller cache capacity and narrower memory bandwidth than the Xbox Magnus.
While the difference isn't huge, the performance difference is expected to be felt in favor of Xbox across all games. This could shift the current-gen balance.
Sony's AI power, however, will be remarkable. The PlayStation 6 will reach a capacity of approximately 1200 TOPS (Trillion Operations Per Second), a fourfold increase from the PlayStation 5 Pro's 300 TOPS.
RAM CAPACITY IS ALSO INCREASING
According to KeplerL2's claim:
PlayStation 6: 30 GB RAM
PlayStation handheld console: 24 GB RAM
Xbox Magnus: Will have 36 GB of RAM.
The significant increase in the amount of RAM of both main consoles from the current 16 GB indicates that technologies such as ray tracing and artificial intelligence-supported graphics processing will become more prominent.
SONY MAY COME WITH TWO DIFFERENT SYSTEMS
While Microsoft appears to be planning only one high-end console, Sony is reportedly working on two PlayStation 6 models with varying hardware capabilities. KeplerL2 says a more affordable Xbox Magnus variant is "possible," but the documentation doesn't currently list such a model.
Release Date Targeted for 2027
While KeplerL2 has been considered a reliable source in recent years, this information hasn't been officially confirmed. However, both the PlayStation 6 and Xbox Magnus are expected to launch in 2027. It's possible that Sony and Microsoft will release more concrete information about their next-generation consoles in the near future.
