TÜİK: Domestic tourists spent 76.4 billion TL in the first quarter of 2025

TurkStat announced the household domestic tourism statistics for the first quarter of 2025. Accordingly, in the first quarter consisting of January, February, and March, 10,750,000 people residing in Turkey traveled. The total number of trips made within the country with one or more overnight stays increased by 28.4 percent compared to the same quarter of the previous year, reaching 12,653,000 trips. In this quarter, travelers stayed 85,317,000 nights. The average number of overnight stays was 6.7 nights. Domestic travel expenditures of domestic tourists increased by 68.9 percent in the first quarter of 2025 compared to the same quarter of the previous year, reaching 76,429,290,000 TL. Of this total, 93.5 percent of the total expenditures were personal expenses, amounting to 71 billion 457 million 499 thousand Turkish Lira, while package tour expenses accounted for 6.5 percent, amounting to 4 billion 971 million 791 thousand Turkish Lira. The average expenditure per trip was 6,040 Turkish Lira.
THE LARGEST SHARE IS IN FOOD AND BEVERAGE EXPENDITURESAn examination of the distribution of spending types within total travel expenditures this quarter revealed that food and beverage spending accounted for the largest share at 32 percent, transportation at 28.4 percent, and accommodation at 10.8 percent. A year-over-year change in these spending types revealed a 62.5 percent increase in food and beverage spending, a 66.3 percent increase in transportation spending, and a 66.7 percent increase in accommodation spending.
TRAVELS MADE TO VISIT RELATIVES ARE IN THE FIRST PLACEIn this quarter, trips to visit relatives ranked first at 71.3%. Travel, entertainment, and vacation came in second at 19.6%, and health came in third at 5%. In this quarter, travelers stayed mostly at the homes of friends or relatives, with 67,654,000 overnight stays. By accommodation type, their own homes came second with 8,836,000 overnight stays, while hotels came in third with 4,976,000 overnight stays.
