Trump's historic decision on Greece: 'He will close the American base'

Dimokratia newspaper reported in its headline that the US government has launched an urgent necessity review to determine whether the base's activities in Dedeağaç will continue.
The report, which suggested that the base would no longer be deemed necessary and could be closed once the war in Ukraine has ended, said: "The closure of the base will strengthen Turkey's influence over the Straits and increase Ankara's authority to control entrances and exits in the region."
The report stated that if this decision is taken, the Greek government and opposition will be in a difficult situation and that it should be re-evaluated whether the base is necessary for Greece's national interests.
It was also noted that the possibility of the US withdrawing from NATO could affect Greece's strategic planning.
In the Ta Nea newspaper's report, it was commented that countries like Greece would be negatively affected if the base in Dedeağaç were to be closed as the US reduced its support for Ukraine.
The report emphasized that the Trump administration has adopted the “America first” approach.
