Apple's Best AirPods Are 20% Off Ahead of Amazon Prime Day

The third installation of Amazon Prime Big Deal Days lands October 8 and 9, but per usual, daddy Bezos isn’t waiting to turn on the savings. A slew of early deals are already live—including a standout batch on Apple’s AirPods.

There are already some solid scores on TVs, menswear, and desk upgrades. But we’re especially excited about the Apple deals, particularly AirPods, which are seeing some significant markdowns ahead of the main event.

Right now, the Apple AirPods 3rd Generation and AirPods Pro 2 are already 20 percent off—making the AirPods 3rd Gen $135 and the AirPods Pro 2 $199. The new AirPods 4 are discounted 8 percent, now $119 instead of $129—a small dip we’re watching closely in case it gets steeper.

For the AirPods Pro 2, the lowest we’ve ever seen is 32 percent off, so there’s a real chance the discount sweetens when Prime Big Deal Days hit next week. Still, at $199, you’re looking at a very strong deal already.

Sort of. Apple itself rarely marks down its inventory, past Prime Day sales have included steep discounts on many of the brand’s best-selling headphones, smartwatches, laptops, and tablets. Amazon sporadically marks down AirPod models throughout the year, but outside of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, these Big Deal Days discounts are some of the best we’ve seen in months. Consider this your excuse to beat the holiday crowds and check everyone (including yourself!) off your list early.

Honestly, it comes down to personal preference. If you’re fine with a simpler option, the 2nd Generation AirPods are the most affordable and offer up to five hours of listening time. As an upgrade from those, the 3rd Generation AirPods boast a longer battery life, as well as personalized spatial audio for a more immersive listening experience. The most recent version in the lineup, the AirPods 4, is designed to offer a more comfortable fit and features an H2 chip for clearer call quality.

That said, if you’re willing to spend more for all the bells and whistles, the AirPods Pro and AirPods Max have those features plus noise cancellation—and the new AirPods Pro 3 have even more cool features including live translation, adaptive mode, and heart rate. It’s a choose-your-own-adventure of audio, really.
