'Ugly Betty' star calls on Hollywood: 'It's time to stand up'

Famous actress America Ferrera, who was awarded the Trailblazer Award at the ceremony held as part of the Critics' Choice Association's Latin Cinema and Television Celebration in the USA, gave a powerful speech.
Appearing on stage at the ceremony held in Los Angeles, Ferrera, who is of Latin American origin, called on her colleagues in Hollywood and emphasized the importance of storytelling in strengthening communities.
"The US is rapidly moving towards a crisis. We in Hollywood must be a civil society. Artists and the stories we tell play a crucial role in this period," said Ferrera, also criticizing anti-immigrant policies in her speech.
The 41-year-old actor, whose family immigrated to the US from Honduras in the 1970s, criticized the policies of former US President Donald Trump and urged people not to remain silent in the face of injustice.
"It's time to be as brave as the characters we write and play, to stand up and make our voices heard. We must use our art to build the world we want to live in," Ferrera said, emphasizing the transformative power of art.
