The importance of hygiene and fluid consumption in urinary tract infection

Urology Specialist Prof. Dr. Ramazan Gökhan Atış states that the risk of infection increases with the summer season and emphasizes the importance of fluid consumption, hygiene rules, and early diagnosis.
Prof. Atış stated that urological infections constitute a significant part of daily practice, saying, "The disease is common in both childhood and adulthood. Infections can develop more frequently in women, particularly due to anatomical reasons. The risk of infection is higher in women due to the shortness of the urinary tract and its proximity to the genital organs."
'RISK INCREASES WITH AGE IN MEN'
Professor Dr. Atış emphasized that urinary tract infections are more common in older men, saying, "The incidence of infection increases in those with benign prostatic hyperplasia, neurogenic bladder, or urinary tract stones. Therefore, a detailed urological examination is essential for children. We also strongly recommend circumcision for boys, as this procedure provides scientifically proven protection against urinary tract infections."
'IF IT RECURSES IN WOMEN, WHY SHOULD IT BE INVESTIGATED?'
Prof. Dr. Atış stated that recurring infections in women are usually due to an underlying cause, saying, "Hygiene rules should be followed. If there's no obvious cause, we can prescribe long-term preventative treatments to regulate the flora. These often include ingredients like cranberries and mannose. Fluid intake is important not only in the summer months, but throughout the year. However, with rising temperatures in the summer, fluid loss from the body increases. We need to be even more careful during this period. Furthermore, avoiding prolonged urine retention reduces the risk of infection."
