The cucumber he swallowed revealed the incredible truth: It was removed in 5.5 hours, a full 18 centimeters!

Aram Devran Ötün, son of Semra and Mehmet Ötün, who live in Şırnak, was taken to Şırnak State Hospital with complaints of coughing and vomiting after swallowing a piece of cucumber while on a picnic in May.
The X-ray and MRI taken here showed that a catheter was forgotten in Aram's body.

Aram, who was transferred to the Gazi Yaşargil Training and Research Hospital Maternity and Child Annex Building in Diyarbakır, underwent a risky surgery that lasted 5.5 hours, and the 18-centimeter-long catheter was removed.
Post-operative examinations revealed that the catheter had damaged his heart valves and lungs.

Through their lawyers, the family filed a lawsuit with the Diyarbakır Administrative Court against the hospital where their child Aram was treated for Stevens-Johnson syndrome, a condition seen one in a million, in September 2022.
Dicle University Hospital also stated that an administrative investigation has been launched regarding the issue.

Semra Ötün, who said that her son started coughing and vomiting constantly after swallowing a piece of cucumber at a picnic, described the day of the incident with the words, "My son swallowed a piece of cucumber and after that he coughed until evening. He never stopped. He was vomiting. I started to have doubts. My child was not normal."

The mother, who explained that they took her children to the hospital at night, said, "The doctor showed us the X-ray. The wire was left there. It was in a very bad shape. After taking an X-ray, the emergency doctor showed us a piece of wire. They transferred us to Diyarbakır without making us wait."
