Diseases affecting both eyes, in particular, can progress to the point where a person becomes unable to carry out their daily lives. Mahruze Tarakcı was one of them. Mahruze Tarakcı, who presented to Medipol Mega University Hospital with severe vision loss, was diagnosed with various and serious problems in both eyes. Explaining the patient's examination, Prof. Dr. Yıldırım said, "Her left eye had a corneal defect due to previous surgery. Her right eye had corneal problems caused by a congenital hereditary condition, along with glaucoma and cataracts. This had led to the patient being unable to move independently or maintain a social life."

HIGH-RISK SURGERY WAS PERFORMED SUCCESSFULLY

Prof. Dr. Yıldırım explained that the patient had previously received treatment at various centers but was hesitant about surgery due to the risks. "Our patient had previously consulted various centers, but he had reservations about the risks of surgery," he said. "However, due to his vision loss, it had become impossible for him to lead an independent life. We consulted with both him and his family in detail. We performed the surgery using specialized surgical instruments and techniques. By preserving the cornea during the surgery, we were able to address other intraocular problems."

LIFE HAS BEGUN AGAIN

Professor Yıldırım emphasized the dramatic improvement in the patient's visual acuity following the surgery, saying, "Our patient is now able to function independently at home and in his social life. This is not just a visual gain; it's also a restoration of his freedom. Medical treatment is currently ongoing, and a treatment plan for his left eye may be considered in the future."

“I CAN DO MY OWN JOB”

Mahruze Tarakcı, who expressed her happiness after the surgery, shared her feelings with the following words:

"Before, I was in a fog, unable to find doors and walking around the house with a cane. It was almost impossible for me to go out. After the surgery, my eyesight opened, and now I can do my own work. May God bless my doctor and his team; they gave me a new lease on life."
