Cemil Tugay to Gürsel Tekin: It is unbecoming of a CHP member to create opportunities for himself.

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay commented on the decision to suspend the CHP Istanbul Provincial Executive and appoint an interim administration. Tugay stated that the decision poses a danger to democracy, saying:
Yesterday was a sudden decision for us. The CHP is currently conducting a new congress and convention. Decisions like these, which could stall that process, are somewhat concerning. I don't know the exact reasons behind the decision to halt the Istanbul congress, but the consequences are quite troubling for our democracy. From the CHP's perspective, I can say this: We are subject to such interventions, and we know we can. But no matter what, our line, our political purpose, and our principles are clear. Within that framework, our struggle will continue unabated. Furthermore, the CHP is not a leading party. Our leader is Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. I hope that such an undemocratic provincial administration will not occur, but the fact that the party's central administration is given to someone else cannot establish long-term dominance within the CHP or change its line. We draw our strength from our country and our people, who support us within the framework of our principles. I don't think anything will be affected there. Each of us will continue to fulfill our duties. Even if there are attempts to hinder us, we will continue to fight for what we know is right without giving up.
"I WISH HE WOULD REVIEW HIS ETHICAL VALUES"
Chairman Tugay also called on Gürsel Tekin, saying, "I don't know the legal basis for the expulsion, but from a moral and ethical perspective, this expulsion is the right decision. What Gürsel Tekin did was wrong. It wouldn't befit any CHP member to exploit such a situation for their own benefit. We are not such people. The CHP is not such a party. I urge him to reconsider the CHP's history and ethical values. We expect the same from him."
