The historic Sinop Prison, one of Türkiye's most important sites of memory and the location where Sabahattin Ali penned his poem "Don't Mind the Heart," has gained official museum status following a comprehensive restoration process. The restoration work, carried out with the support of the European Union, was implemented as part of the "Common Cultural Heritage: Preservation and Dialogue Between Turkey and the EU Phase 2 Project."

The project, which was implemented with a budget of approximately €8 million, supported 21 different civil society projects in addition to the restoration. Attendees of the museum's opening were Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mehmet Kemal Bozay, Sinop Governor Mustafa Özarslan, AK Party Member of Parliament Nazım Maviş, Mayor Metin Gürbüz, and Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to Turkey Jurgis Vilcinskas.

3,500-SQUARE-METRE EXHIBITION AREA: Ersoy emphasized that the prison is not just a structure, but a symbol that leaves a deep mark on our literary and social memory. He noted that figures such as Sabahattin Ali, Kerim Korcan, Eşber Yağmurdereli, and Zeki Özturanlı were also imprisoned there. The museum, with its 3,500-square-meter exhibition area, aims to become a center of attraction in Sinop through its artistic events.
