The pain of Srebrenica in Buca continues to tear hearts on its 30th anniversary.

The Srebrenica Genocide, one of the most painful chapters in human history, was commemorated with a meaningful ceremony held in Buca on its 30th anniversary. The ceremony, held by the Buca Municipality in front of the Srebrenica Monument in the Adatepe neighborhood, included a moment of silence for the 8,372 Bosnians who lost their lives in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1995.

Meaningful Gift: Emotional Flowers from Srebrenica Mothers

The ceremony was dominated by Bosnian youth from Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, and Serbia. They presented Buca Mayor, architect Görkem Duman, with a flower handmade by the mothers of Srebrenica. Participants were also presented with "blue butterfly" badges, which have become a symbol of the genocide.

Görkem Duman: “A forgotten genocide will be repeated.”

Speaking at the ceremony, President Görkem Duman described the Srebrenica massacre as "one of the darkest stains in human history." Recalling the words of Wise Leader Alija Izetbegović, who said, "Whatever you do, don't forget the genocide. Because a forgotten genocide is repeated," Duman emphasized that not forgetting the genocide is a moral responsibility.

“We Must Walk Towards the Future Without Forgetting the Past”

In his speech, President Duman stated that he spoke both as a son of the Balkans and a citizen of the Republic of Turkey. Recalling the teachings of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, he stated that protecting freedom and peace is everyone's duty: "The name of every innocent who fell on the soil of Srebrenica is in our prayers. On the 30th anniversary of this great pain, we promise once again: We will not forget, we will not allow it to be forgotten."

Dzemal Krkalic, who came to Türkiye from Bosnia and Herzegovina to study at university, delivered an emotional speech at the ceremony. Expressing his gratitude to Türkiye and the Turkish people, Krkalic said, "As a Bosnian, I will always carry this friendship and brotherhood in my heart."

The "Capital of Blue Butterflies" Oratorio Brings Tears to Eyes

The oratorio "Capital of the Blue Butterflies," performed at the end of the ceremony, brought emotional moments to the audience. The ceremony concluded with the laying of lilies and carnations at the Srebrenica Memorial.

It Started with Prayers in the Morning

The commemoration ceremony began at 5:10 a.m. at the Muradiye Mosque in the Dumlupınar neighborhood. Bosnian students participated in the ceremony, which included prayers for those who lost their lives in Srebrenica. The Buca Municipality served hot soup to residents as they exited the mosque.
