Russia and the US to meet in Istanbul
The US and Russian delegations, who met for the first time in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, on February 18 after the start of Donald Trump's term in the US, will meet in Istanbul tomorrow.
Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov announced that the Russian and US delegations will meet in Istanbul on February 27 to discuss the work of the embassies.
Following the 4.5-hour meeting in Riyadh, the Russian side announced that the two sides agreed to appoint an ambassador as soon as possible.
Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov paid a visit to Ankara on February 24, on the third anniversary of the Russia-Ukraine War, and met with President Erdoğan and Foreign Minister Fidan.
Lavrov said in a statement after his meeting with Minister Fidan, "We agreed that our dialogue channels with the US should always be open. We will take steps to restart the work of the embassies. Two technical meetings were held last week, and comprehensive talks will be held this week. I hope we will not encounter democratic obstacles with the US."
