Minister Uraloğlu: Number of 4.5G subscribers reached 87.6 million

In his written statement, Minister Uraloğlu evaluated the data in the Annual Market Data Bulletin prepared by the Information Technologies and Communication Authority (BTK). Minister Uraloğlu stated that in parallel with current technological developments, the investment made by electronic communication companies in the sector increased by 80 percent compared to 2023 and reached 94.1 billion liras. Uraloğlu said, "We can observe a 5.6-fold increase in operator investments between 2020 and 2024."
Uraloğlu drew attention to the fact that the number of subscribers to electronic communication services in Türkiye, which was 118.6 million in 2020, increased by 1.7 percent compared to the previous year and exceeded 131.9 million by the end of 2024. Uraloğlu stated that the internet usage rate in Türkiye is above the world average of 68 percent at 88.8 percent and said, "The number of broadband subscribers, which was 82.4 million in 2020, increased by an average of 3.5 million subscribers annually and exceeded 96.4 million in 2024. The annual average fixed broadband subscriber increase between 2020 and 2024 was approximately 1 million. Thus, the number of fixed broadband subscribers, which was 16.7 million in 2020, reached 20.5 million."

Minister Uraloğlu, drawing attention to the fact that there was an average annual increase of 2.5 million subscribers in the number of mobile broadband subscribers between 2020 and 2024, noted that the number of mobile broadband subscribers, which was 65.6 million in 2020, increased to 75.9 million by the end of 2024. Uraloğlu said, "In addition, while there was a 0.9 percent increase in the fixed broadband penetration rate compared to the previous year, this rate was 2.3 percent in mobile broadband."
Uraloğlu also stated that the rate of fiber internet in total fixed broadband subscriptions increased by 64.8 percent compared to 2020, while the rate of xDSL decreased by 25 percent. Uraloğlu said, “While the amount of data used by fixed broadband subscribers increased by approximately 2.2 times in 4 years, the amount of data used by mobile subscribers increased by 2.3 times.”
'THE NUMBER OF MOBILE SUBSCRIBERS HAS EXCEEDED 94 MILLION'Minister Uraloğlu also made a statement about the number of fiber subscribers, saying, "The fiber length, which was 424.9 kilometers in 2020, increased by 42.3 percent and approached 605 thousand kilometers in 2024. The number of fiber subscribers, which was 4 million in 2020, increased by 102.5 percent and reached 8.1 million."
Minister Uraloğlu, who stated that the number of mobile subscribers has exceeded 94.3 million, announced that the number of 4.5G subscribers will reach 87.66 million by the end of 2024. Uraloğlu said, “While the prevalence of 4.5G subscribers in the country in terms of population is 102.3 percent for 2024, this figure is 123.3 percent for Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Bursa and Antalya. According to the number of mobile subscribers, the five provinces in question have 47 percent of the total subscribers.”
'CALL INITIATING TRAFFIC WAS 5.1 BILLION MINUTES'Minister Uraloğlu, who also evaluated the number of mobile numbers ported by year, said, “It is possible to say that subscriber mobility between operators is intense in mobile services. We see that an average of 10.6 million mobile numbers were ported annually between 2020 and 2024. The number of ports, which was 147.3 million in 2020, reached 190 million according to 2024 data.”
Minister Uraloğlu, stating that a decrease in the number of subscribers and penetration rate was observed in fixed telephone services between 2020 and 2024, said, “We see that the penetration rate of 12.45 million and 14.9 percent in 2020 has decreased over time and regressed to 9 million subscribers and a penetration rate of 10.6 percent.” Uraloğlu also stated that the call origination traffic, which was approximately 5.7 billion minutes at the end of 2020, decreased by 10.7 percent and was realized as approximately 5.1 billion minutes in 2024.
