9 people poisoned in bungalow told of fearful moments: Their lives were saved by the sound of crying

A group of 9 people who made an agreement with a bungalow belonging to a private company in Arnavutköy Haraççı Neighborhood came face to face with death in the place they went to have fun. The people who were poisoned by the gas released from the natural gas stove in the bungalow lost consciousness and fainted. After the phone call, the 9 people who were taken to the hospital by their relatives who came to the scene were reported to be in good health, and they recounted the fearful moments experienced that night. On the other hand, the bungalow where the incident took place was also captured from the air with a drone camera.

"WE COULD HAVE DIED, IF NOT BY BURNING, BUT BY POISONING"

Öznur Demir, a citizen who rented the bungalow by contacting the company and was later hospitalized due to poisoning, said, "We checked in at around 02:00 on February 23. Time passed and it was evening. We didn't turn on the natural gas stove anyway. Then the business owner told us that it would be cold at night and you should turn it on. He explained how to turn it on, he said, 'You will press this level, if it gets cold, turn it on.' But he only added, 'Air it every two hours.' He didn't say anything about what kind of danger it would pose if we didn't ventilate. My mother got up for morning prayers in the morning. They turned on the stove because it was cold, around 06:00. Then we all went to sleep together. My little child started to feel nauseous and cough, and woke us up that way. It was between 08:30 and 09:00. We all felt bad when we woke up. We all felt faint and dizzy and called our spouses and told them that we were bad. We went to Arnavutköy State Hospital immediately. Some tests were done there. and a blood test revealed high doses of carbon monoxide gas consumption. We too could have died, if not by burning, then by poisoning.

"A great danger was averted, the children stayed in the hospital until the morning. The children were transferred to other hospitals. We may be fine physically now, but we are very bad psychologically," he said.

"AFTER WE TURNED ON THE STOVE, EVERYONE WENT TO SLEEP AGAIN, AND WHEN THEY WOKE UP CRYING, WE WOKE UP TOO"

Ümmü Gülsüm Genç, who also experienced fearful moments that night, said, "At around 06:00 in the morning, my parents woke up because they were both praying and fasting. They also turned on the stove at that time. After turning on the stove, everyone went back to sleep. When Öznur's child woke up crying around 09:00 - 09:30, we got up too. My brother was in the room where there was no stove, but then he came to us and suddenly fainted and fell to the floor. We panicked at that moment.

Then we called my father at 09:30 and he came immediately. Everyone started to get worse at this point. When we went to the hospital, the doctors immediately did blood tests and found high levels of carbon monoxide in our blood. Four people were referred to another hospital. There are official reports of carbon monoxide consumption. We also gave them to the police station. We had three children with us, their condition was more sensitive, so they referred them to a different hospital. My brother who had fainted was also referred to another treatment. We couldn't fully understand what was happening at that moment, we were all in fear," he said.

"IF WE HAD SLEPT THAT SWEET SLEEP, WE WOULD NEVER WAKE UP"

Hatice Turgut, who woke up that night to pray and turned on the stove, said, "I went downstairs to pray during the morning call to prayer, got up together and said with Fatoş Hanım, let's have a snack as we intend to fast. What she said to me during this time was that I feel dizzy and my blood pressure has increased. I was sleeping in a room upstairs that did not have a separate stove. I prayed the morning prayer, it was cool inside, we said let's turn on the stove, it warmed up a bit and then I went to bed next to my two grandchildren.

"In the morning, let me tell you what time it was, around 8, my granddaughter, my grandmother, said she felt nauseous and was going to throw up. I got up immediately but my vision went black and something like that happened to me and then I told my daughter to get up, she didn't hear at all. Öznur didn't hear at all, I shook her like this, she came to like this, she was dizzy like this, we all panicked when Zeynep fainted and we all panicked and threw up in that panic, the children, I don't know how to explain it to you, the inside of the house was different. If we had slept that sweet sleep, we would never have woken up anyway," she said.

The bungalow where the incident took place was captured from the air by a drone camera. The images showed that there were no other structures around the bungalow and that it was surrounded by tall trees and walls.
