Moscow hockey team Dynamo organized a ceremony in honor of forward Alexander Ovechkin, timed to coincide with the start of the 2025/2026 season. At the club's home arena, the hockey player was presented with a golden stick, and his personal banner was raised under the arena's arches.
As part of the event, a congratulatory video dedicated to the athlete was shown on the media screen.
Earlier, a maze in honor of Ovechkin was created on one of the farms in the USA. An image of 2.5 hectares appeared on a corn field, where the Russian hockey player is captured at the moment of throwing the puck. The opening of the attraction for visitors is scheduled for August 23. Part of the proceeds from tickets will be donated to charity.
Alexander Ovechkin began his professional career with Dynamo in 2001 at the age of 16. As part of the team, he won the Russian Championship in 2005 and the Gagarin Cup in the 2012/2013 season. In 2005, the hockey player moved to the United States, making his debut in the National Hockey League for the Washington Capitals, who selected him first overall in the draft. As part of Washington, Ovechkin won the Stanley Cup in 2018 and, following the 2024/2025 season, is the top sniper in NHL history with 897 goals, breaking the record of Canadian hockey player Wayne Gretzky.
Ovechkin continues to play for Washington under a contract that expires at the end of the 2025-26 season. This will be his 21st season in the NHL.
