In the next 24 hours, according to scientists' forecasts, magnetic storms will hit the Earth. Preliminary, the solar attack will begin on the night of September 14, the Institute of Space Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported, TASS reports.
"Based on the results of the modeling, a large coronal hole located on the Sun forms a wide stream of fast solar wind, which the Earth can take up to six days to completely cross," the report says.
According to scientists, the solar wind speed will initially be up to 400 km/s. Then it will increase to 500-600 km/s. It will reach peak values of 700 km/s, tentatively, on September 16.
Scientists also spoke about the power of the upcoming magnetic storms. It will be from G1 to G3. According to the international classification, a scale of five indicators is used, where G5 is "extremely strong".
