A large-scale operation to artificially cause rain in order to reduce the risk of wildfires has begun in Yakutsk, the Aviadispatcher Telegram channel reports.

Fires traditionally worsen in the region in May. A specialized Yak-40 aircraft belonging to the Central Aerological Observatory of Roshydromet arrived at the Yakutsk airport. This unique aircraft is equipped with equipment for atmospheric sounding and active influence on clouds.

The crew has already started work. In the coming days, specialists will process clouds over the central and trans-river regions of Yakutia. The goal of the work is to stimulate precipitation in those areas where it is most needed.

Modern technologies allow for fairly precise regulation of the process. Such measures are especially relevant in the context of a changing climate.
