Students are protesting outside the US embassy and consulates in Brazil against US President Donald Trump's tariffs on Brazilian goods, local news site G1 reported.
"The National Union of Students (UNE) held a protest against Trump's tariff hike in front of the US consulate in Rio de Janeiro on Friday evening, August 1," the portal's publication says.
G1 adds that rallies were also held in 12 other cities in Brazil where the US has consulates. In addition, there were rallies in front of the US embassy in the capital, Brasilia.
At the same time, the Lusa agency reported that in addition to students, trade unions also came out to protest. In Sao Paulo, protesters carried dolls depicting US President Donald Trump and former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro. Later, the protesters burned counterfeit dollars, dolls, and even an American flag.
This week, Trump signed an executive order that increases duties on goods from Brazil to 50%. However, Trump also approved a list of 700 products that will be exempted. The list mainly includes products from the aviation industry and agriculture.
Earlier it became known that energy companies operating in Brazil suspended oil supplies to the United States .
