The European Union transferred 4.05 billion euros to Ukraine

Two tranches are timed to coincide with the country's Independence Day

The European Union has transferred two tranches of aid to Ukraine totaling 4.05 billion euros. The money was allocated on the occasion of the country's Independence Day, the European Commission said .

"Ahead of the 34th anniversary of Ukraine's independence on 24 August, the EU is sending another strong signal of continued support," the EC said in a statement.

The first tranche of 3.05 billion euros came from the European Fund for Support to Ukraine. Another 1 billion euros was allocated through the European Commission's program for providing exceptional macro-financial assistance to Ukraine.
