Yulia Ogloblina, Deputy Chair of the State Duma Committee on Agrarian Issues, denied reports of a possible sugar price increase in Russia, stating that there are no economic grounds for such a move. The deputy told the TASS news agency.
According to the parliamentarian, the current sugar beet harvest will fully meet the domestic market's needs and will allow for continued exports. Ogloblina emphasized that the current price of sugar on the domestic market is even slightly lower than it was during the same period last year.
According to the deputy, farmers are continuing the harvesting campaign, and 45 percent of the total sugar beet crop has already been harvested. In quantitative terms, this represents 20.5 million tons, an eight percent increase over last year's figures. Sixty-six sugar refineries across the country are processing the harvest, having already produced two million tons of sugar. This volume is 110,000 tons more than the same period last year.
By the end of the current season, Russia's total beet sugar production is expected to reach 6.8 million tons, 300,000 tons more than last year. According to Ogloblina, this amount will be sufficient to fully meet domestic demand, as well as for export to the Eurasian Economic Union and the Commonwealth of Independent States.
It was previously reported that nutritionists warned about the dangers of late dinners.
