The Preobrazhensky Court of Moscow has sentenced former adviser to the Russian Academy of Sciences Vasily Solovyov, finding him guilty of fraud on an especially large scale. According to the text of the sentence, which TASS has reviewed, the defendant was sentenced to three years of imprisonment in a general regime penal colony. The court's decision has already entered into legal force.

As follows from the materials of the criminal case, Solovyov promised his acquaintance, who was under criminal prosecution, to influence the judge in order to make a favorable decision. For his services, the former adviser asked for about 6 million rubles. However, as the investigation established, the accused had no real opportunity to interfere in the trial.

After the victim contacted law enforcement agencies, Solovyov was arrested on December 31, 2024. At the time of his arrest, he held the position of adviser to the Vice President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Yuri Balega. Information about Solovyov has now been removed from the official website of the Academy. During the investigation, the defendant fully admitted his guilt and repented of his actions.

Earlier it was reported that a new fraudulent scheme involving confirmation of residence had been uncovered.
