The majority of Novgorod children are school-age children

In honor of June 1, International Children's Day, Novgorodstat specialists present data on young residents of our region. At the beginning of 2025, the number of Novgorod children was 110.1 thousand people. Currently, every fifth resident of the Novgorod region is a child or teenager. There are more boys among young Novgorodians: for every 100 girls there are 107 boys.

" The majority of children (70%) are of school age, from 7 to 17 years old inclusive. The share of preschoolers from 0 to 6 years old inclusive was 30% of the total number of children. At the same time, at the beginning of the current year, the region had the largest number of children aged 12 years - this is 7.5 thousand people or 6.8% of the total number of children ," the employees of the territorial statistics agency comment on the information.

It should be noted that 3.8 thousand children were born in the region a year earlier. At the same time, twins were born in 27 families. More than 72% of all babies were born in officially registered marriages.
