Pregnant Novgorod woman who fell into a coma after a traffic accident survived and gave birth thanks to doctors and her family

Now we can already say that Novgorod doctors won the fight for two lives at once, when a pregnant woman who had been in a traffic accident was admitted to them. The Novgorod Region Health Minister Valery Yakovlev reported this case on social networks.

"I would like to share not only a unique case of medical care, but also a personal feat, an example of the desire to live from our young patient," the minister wrote. "In November last year, Victoria Smirnova, a woman injured in a traffic accident with a long-awaited pregnancy of 17 weeks, was admitted to the Pestovskaya Central Regional Hospital. The ambulance brought her with terrible injuries, unconscious and in a coma. Pestovskaya specialists did everything necessary to save her life and the life of her unborn child. Later, with the help of the Disaster Medicine Service, with the involvement of the obstetric resuscitation and consultation center, Victoria was transported to the Novgorod Regional Clinical Hospital.

Victoria was then treated by a multidisciplinary team of Novgorod specialists, with the most active participation of colleagues from the Almazov National Medical Research Center and the Kulakov Scientific Center of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Despite possible complications, a joint decision was made to continue the pregnancy.

Victoria was in a coma for 2 months! The staff of the NOKB and the Mishekurin Perinatal Center did everything possible to save Victoria's life and pregnancy. The fight was for two lives!

Before the coveted "full-term" term, the patient had to undergo a long course of rehabilitation treatment at the National Medical Research Center named after V.A. Almazov and the Novgorod Clinical Center for Medical Rehabilitation. Here, Victoria was helped to gain strength, and was assisted in developing her joints after a long static position.

The birth went well, at the end of April the Smirnovs had a boy, whom they named Andrey. During these six months, while the treatment was ongoing, Victoria's husband Evgeny was by her side. I am sure that this is what helped her get through all the difficulties. Now he is looking after the newborn and taking care of his growing daughter, and Victoria continues her rehabilitation course."

I thank each participant of this difficult clinical case! I am simply proud of their professional endurance and medical intuition! We were not able to collect photos of everyone who was involved in the fate of Victoria and her child. And in the photo - the happy moment of discharge from the maternity hospital.
