Russian mixed martial artist (MMA) Islam Makhachev hinted on his page on the social network X about changing his weight category in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
"Time to become a double champion. Let's go," he wrote after Jack Della Maddalena's welterweight victory over Belal Muhammad at UFC 315. The Russian had been thinking about fighting in that weight class, but didn't want to step into the octagon against his friend Muhammad.
On January 19, Makhachev defended his lightweight title for a record fourth time. The Russian defeated Brazilian Renato Moicano at UFC 311.
In total, Makhachev has 27 wins and only one loss in MMA.
