Evgeniya Khasis , an accomplice in the murder of lawyer Stanislav Markelov and journalist Anastasia Baburova , was released after 16 years of imprisonment. This was reported by RIA Novosti , citing court documents.
It is noted that Khasis was released at the end of August 2025 from a colony in Mordovia . She is under administrative supervision.
In January 2022, the Supreme Court again upheld the sentence of former members of the neo-Nazi extremist group "Combat Organization of Russian Nationalists" (BORN) Nikita Tikhonov and Evgenia Khasis, but excluded from it punishment for illegal arms trafficking and the use of a forged document due to the expiration of the statute of limitations.
Human rights activist Stanislav Markelov and Novaya Gazeta journalist Anastasia Baburova were killed in Moscow in January 2009. Tikhonov and Khasis were arrested in November of the same year. In April 2011, a jury found them guilty of murdering Markelov and Baburova. In May, the Moscow City Court sentenced Tikhonov to life imprisonment. Khasis was found to be an accomplice and sentenced to 18 years in prison; the term was later reduced by two years.
