The 16th Quelfes Games will be held this year in Ayamonte and São Brás de Alportel

The largest and most emblematic event promoting Olympism at school level, the Quelfes Games, returns for the 16th edition, this year with venues in the Spanish city of Ayamonte and in São Brás de Alportel.
On Thursday, May 15, Ayamonte will host the “Challenge of the Gods”, a competition in which the participating classes will try to overcome challenges in the sports of handball, athletics, basketball, football, field hockey and tag rugby (in addition to three intellectual challenges – Odisseia d´Arraúl – the work that inspired the Games – Olympism and mental calculation) to win the title of “Olympic Class”, awarded by the Portuguese Olympic Academy.
On the 21st, in São Brás de Alportel, the «Atlima» (sport in Greek) is celebrated, the aim of which is to provide the discovery and knowledge of the different Olympic sports, in an atmosphere of celebration and inter-municipal fraternization.
In total, 44 classes from Albufeira, Aljustrel, (representing the Alentejo), Ayamonte (Spain), Cartaya (Spain), Faro, Lagoa, Lagos, Loulé, Olhão, Portimão, São Brás de Alportel, Seixal (Greater Lisbon), Silves, Tavira and Vila Real de Santo António are taking part in the 16th Quelfes Games.
The Organizing Committee of the Quelfes Games includes the Portuguese Olympic Academy , the Algarve handball, athletics, basketball and football associations, the Quelfes Games Association, the Algarve University Rugby Club, the Portuguese Golf Federation , the municipalities of Albufeira, Ayamonte, Lagoa, Lagos, Loulé, Olhão, Portimão, São Brás de Alportel and Tavira and the Algarve regional directorate of the IPDJ .
