Rafael Reis continues to lead the Joaquim Agostinho Trophy
The Anicolor/Tien21 cyclist, after winning the prologue, held the yellow jersey after the first stage

Rafael Reis, from Anicolor/Tien21, maintained, today, the lead in the general classification of the 48th Torres Vedras International Grand Prix - Joaquim Agostinho Trophy, after the first stage disputed between Arruda dos Vinhos and Sobral de Monte Agraço, won by Jakub Otruba (Caja Rural). The cyclist from the Águeda professional team crossed the finish line at the end of the 181.4 kilometers as part of the peloton, which arrived 52 seconds after the 2023 Czech time trial champion. Argentine Nicolás Tivani (Aviludo-Louletano-Loulé) added another second place to this season's long list, ahead of Spaniard Sergi Darder, also from Caja Rural. After completing the stage in 4:33.28 hours, 27-year-old Jakub Otruba jumped to second place overall, but was unable to dethrone Rafael Reis, who won the prologue on Thursday. The national time trial runner-up remains in yellow, 16 seconds ahead of the Czech rider, while fellow Portuguese Tiago Antunes (Efapel) rounds out the podium, 17 seconds behind. Russian Artem Nych, also of Anicolor/Tien21 and reigning champion of the Volta a Portugal, is fourth, 21 seconds behind.

Tomorrow, the second stage of the Joaquim Agostinho Trophy, the final major test before the crowning event of the national cycling calendar, concludes at the top of Montejunto, which this year will also host the finish line of the Tour of Portugal. The cyclists will cover 161.3 kilometers of mostly flat terrain from Bombarral to the final climb.
