The Portuguese under-21 football team beat Gibraltar 11-0 today and took the lead in Group B of the qualifying round for the European Championship in that category, to be played in 2027. In Gibraltar, they created one of their biggest routs ever with goals from Diogo Travassos (8' and 84'), Gustavo Varela (11' and 67'), Rodrigo Mora (28'), Fábio Baldé (51'), Mateus Fernandes (56'), Gabriel Brás (57'), Youssef Chermiti (70'), Gustavo Sá (90', from a penalty) and Geovany Quenda (90+2').
Portugal, which remains undefeated in qualifying, leads Group B with 12 points, three more than the Czech Republic, second, who lost 2-1 to Bulgaria, third, with seven points. Luís Freire's team, which beat Azerbaijan (5-0), Scotland (2-0), and Bulgaria (3-0) in previous rounds, visits the Czech Republic in the next round, on November 18.
