The National Team continues to prepare for Eurobasket, waiting for Neemias Queta, who is expected to join the training camp in Luso later this week, after complying with the protocol imposed by the NBA that its players can only join their respective teams 28 days before the start of the competition, which begins on August 27.
In addition to the Celtics' center's absence, the national coach has faced other setbacks in preparation, including injuries, which have already ruled Gonçalo Delgado out of Eurobasket. Mário Gomes, therefore, praises the group's commitment and resilience in overcoming these obstacles. "For this reason, the behavior of those who have been able to train is commendable. They have done everything asked of them to help us overcome these setbacks," he said in a statement to the Portuguese Basketball Federation (FPB) website.
The first major assessment of the training camp will take place next week in Malaga, with two friendlies between Portugal and Spain's A and B teams, followed by the match against Argentina in Madrid. "They will be a test of our fitness and tactical processes," emphasizes the national coach.
It should be noted that 13 players are currently in training, increasing to 14 when Neemias Queta joins the group. Two will be left out at the end of the training camp, with 12 traveling to Riga, Latvia, where the Lynxes will play in Group A of Eurobasket against the Czech Republic, Serbia, Turkey, Latvia, and Estonia.
