Lagoa Municipality honors national champions of Lagoa Académico Clube

On August 8th, the Lagoa municipal executive welcomed the athletes from Lagoa Académico Clube (LAC) who were crowned national champions during the current sports season to the City Hall. The ceremony aimed to publicly recognize the merit, dedication, and effort of these athletes, who have excelled in various swimming disciplines in national and international competitions.
In pure swimming, under the guidance of coach Guilherme Sá, the young swimmer Constança Azevedo stood out by winning, at the National Youth, Junior and Absolute Championships, held in April, the titles of national champion in the 400-meter medley and 200-meter medley, in addition to a third place in the 50-meter backstroke.
At the National Championship for Youth, Juniors and Seniors, which took place in July, Constança shone again by becoming national champion in the 400-meter medley and 200-meter backstroke, national runner-up in the 100-meter backstroke and 200-meter medley, and also taking third place in the 50-meter backstroke.
Mariana Canárias Jesus also stood out by winning the title of national champion in the 200-meter backstroke and national runner-up in the 100-meter butterfly, as well as 6th place nationally in the group of events that constitute the Complete Swimmer at the National Children's Championship.
In masters swimming, under the guidance of Bruno Dias, Inez Correa Sá became national champion in the 200-meter butterfly at the Summer National Masters Championship, while Mariana Moura Santos became national champion in the 400-meter freestyle at the Winter National Masters Championship and later won gold in the 3000-meter at the Spring National Open Water Championship.
In the adapted swimming category, guided by coach Paulo Sousa, athlete Filipe Santos won consecutive national championship titles in the 50-meter backstroke, both in the National Winter Championship and in the National Summer Championship, confirming his sporting career with consistency and excellence.
In the water polo category, under the responsibility of coach Tiago Augusto, the young athlete Tiago Cardoso was called up to join the national under-16 water polo team, having represented Portugal in the European Championship in the category, which took place between July 7th and 13th, in Slovenia.
According to a press release from the Municipality of Lagoa , this tribute commends "the work of Lagoa Académico Clube, its technical teams, the commitment of the athletes, and the fundamental support of their families, particularly their parents, whose involvement, dedication, and encouragement are essential to their sporting success. Everyone's collective effort is an example of resilience and a source of pride for all Lagoa residents."
