FIP Silver VRSA: favorites don't waver on the way to the quarterfinals

The third day of the FIP Silver in Vila Real de Santo António ( VRSA ) marked the farewell of most Portuguese athletes from the Algarve event, in the round of 16 of the competition.
Portugal entered the competition with seven representatives — Ana Catarina Nogueira, Mafalda Fernandes, Catarina Santos and Patrícia Ribeiro in the women's competition, and Miguel Deus, Nuno Deus and João Caiano in the men's competition. Of all of them, only Ana Catarina Nogueira secured a place in the quarter-finals, keeping “Portuguese hope” alive in the competition.
In the men's competition, the “biggest surprise” was the elimination of Miguel and Nuno Deus at the hands of the duo formed by Miguel Lamperti and Juani Rubini, in a duel marked by “balance and difficult playing conditions (strong wind)”. “Apart from this result, the main favorites confirmed
the status and stamped access to the next phase”, can be read in the press release.
In the women's competition, the line-up confirmed expectations: the top eight seeds will move forward, in a group that includes Ana Catarina Nogueira and Argentina's Martina Fassio, both with “solid and consistent” performances.
The Padel Club of Vila Real de Santo António also paid tribute to Carolina Navarro, former world number one.
