FCT approves support for 1,550 projects

One day after announcing its closure and restructuring, the Foundation for Science and Technology released the provisional results of its doctoral scholarship competition on Friday morning. Meeting the deadline for announcing the various panels' decisions in early August, the FCT awarded a total of 1,550 grants for various research projects leading to doctoral degrees.
Candidates whose applications have been rejected can appeal the decision within ten business days of the announcement by the public funding entity. A source at the FCT told Observador that both scholarships awarded in the Non-Academic Environment and those awarded in an academic environment were classified and announced simultaneously.
These new grants have a maximum duration of four years and, contrary to what was foreseen in the last editions of the competition, the FCT has ceased the possibility of issuing requests for extension of the financing if the contracted period is shorter than this limit.
