Coimbra Biennial curates exhibition in Brazil

Anozero — Coimbra Contemporary Art Biennial participated in the curation of an exhibition at the Museum of the Portuguese Language, in São Paulo, Brazil, which brings together videos, sculptures and installations by artists from three Portuguese-speaking countries.

The “Atlânticos” exhibition will be on display at the Brazilian museum between Friday and November 2, curated by Carlos Antunes, director of the Anozero Biennial, Fábio Delduque, from the Arte Serrinha Festival in Brazil, and Mehak Vieira, from the Jahmek Contemporary Art Gallery in Angola, in collaboration with the museum team.

The exhibition “is yet another manifestation of the internationalization of the Biennial, which has developed several collaborations with Brazilian curators and artists,” said Anozero, in a statement sent to the Lusa news agency.

The “Atlantics” project includes works by Inês Moura and Jorge das Neves (Portugal), Jonathas de Andrade and Shirley Paes Leme (Brazil), and Gegé M'bakudi and Wyssolela Moreira (Angola), reflecting on language, memory and a common future.

The creations are the result of a residency, held in July 2024 at the Arte Serrinha Festival, in the interior of São Paulo, where the six artists worked together for ten days.

“The inspiration came from the Portuguese language as it is experienced in Angola, Portugal and Brazil, and also from the exhibition 'African Languages that Make Brazil', on display at the same museum between May 2024 and February 2025,” added the Biennial.
