Algarve's Ussumani Djumo is crowned Absolute Champion of the North

It is official, after having already been crowned regional indoor track champion in the 60 metres (m) Hurdles, with a time of 8.26s, thus breaking a record that had been held for 23 years in Viana do Castelo, the Algarve athlete Ussumani Djumo won this week the 110 metres hurdles event at the Dr. José Vieira de Carvalho Stadium in Maia, thus also becoming the Absolute Champion of the North and Regional Champion of Viana do Castelo in the 110 metres hurdles.

The Absolute Championship of the North and the Regional Championship of the Viana do Castelo Athletics Association were intended for all athletes and clubs affiliated with the Regional Associations of the North Zone, and the athlete from Silves, who this season wears the colours of the Vianense Olympic Athletics Club ( CAOV ), won the gold medal in the 110 metres hurdles with a time of 14.38 seconds, thus becoming the Absolute Champion of the North of Portugal in this sport.

Ussumani Djumo shared that: «this is one of the most anticipated moments of the competitive calendar here in the North of Portugal, it was a good race, I gave my best and won these two individual titles of Absolute Champion of the North of Portugal in the 110 m Hurdles and Regional Champion of Viana do Castelo also in the 110 m Hurdles».

After this victory that consecrated Ussuman Djumo, the athlete returned to the track to participate in the extra event held in the 110 m Hurdles and won again with the same time of 14.38 seconds.

Djumo helped his team, CAOV, with these results, which was also the collective winning club, also being awarded the title of Absolute Champion Athletics Club of the North and Regional Champion of Viana do Castelo.

Ussumani Djumo added: “Congratulations to my team, CAOV, who believed in me this season and helped me win all these medals and titles. It’s been a wonderful year for everyone.”

The events were held at the Prof. Dr. José Vieira de Carvalho Stadium, in the city of Maia on June 19, 2025, and athlete Ussumani Djumo and CAOV took home the two champion titles.
