A festive and convivial atmosphere as bodyboarding returns to the Miss Quebramar Cup

Yesterday was a day of celebration on Costa Nova beach in Ílhavo, with the kickoff of the 21st edition of the Miss Quebramar Cup, featuring the National Women's Bodyboarding Meeting - "Miss turns 20" - and, with it, the reunion of many former athletes. The camaraderie and empathy between the former athletes and the young national bodyboarders was natural, as it has always been among the competitors over the 20 years of the most fragrant championship in national and European wave sports. On the opening day of the 2025 edition of the Miss Quebramar Cup, four heats were held, with three athletes each, with the winners going directly to Round 3 (“woman to woman”), while the others will have to compete, first, in Round 2 to try to continue in the competition. Thus, in Round 3 there are already Joana Schenker, Catarina Sousa, Marta Leitão and Luana Dourado, a “mix” of veterans and youth, of athletes and former athletes, which ends up being an excellent sample of what this National Women's Bodyboard Meeting is all about – “Miss turns 20”. Two heats are scheduled for today in Round 2, namely: “Heat” 1 - Filipa Broeiro, Marta Fernandes and Teresa Duarte; “Heat” 2 – Maria Costa, Mariana Silva, Raquel Oliveira and Mariana Rosa. In the four heats held yesterday in Round 1, Joana Schenker showed why she's a four-time Miss Quebramar Cup winner and surfed the best wave, earning 8.00 points from two judges. Filipa Boreiro, with 7.00 points, and Marta Leitão, with 6.17 points, completed the podium. Joana Schenker (13.17 points) and Filipa Broeiro (12.90), the two athletes currently in third place on the World Circuit, managed to achieve the two best scores, with Catarina Sousa (11.67 points) completing the Top 3. 64 waves were surfed, meaning 64 euros for “Onda Solidária”, this year supported by SIC Esperança, an initiative that goes to a private social welfare institution in the municipality of Ílhavo. It is worth noting that some of the former athletes attended the meeting, also bringing their daughters, potential candidates to be bodyboarders who will compete in the Miss Quebramar Cup in the future.
Tomorrow and Sunday the competition for the National Women's Surfing Championship (Liga Meo Surf) will be held, with the grand final to be held on Sunday.
