Arouca fires were controlled this Friday at 7 am

The fire that broke out on Monday in Arouca (Aveiro) was declared under control this Friday at around 7:00 am, a source from the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) told Lusa news agency.
According to Pedro Araújo, this fire “does not have any front that is evolving unfavorably, outside the control of the firefighters.”
Although under control, this fire, which had spread to the neighboring municipalities of Castelo de Paiva and Cinfães, mobilized 426 operatives and 157 ground resources at 7:00 am.
According to initial estimates, the Arouca fire reached a perimeter of over 48 kilometers and consumed an area of over 4,500 hectares of forest.
The fire caused damage to an abandoned house, some agricultural outbuildings and minor damage to two homes, and also destroyed part of the Paiva Walkways, one of the main sources of income for the local economy of Arouca.
