The Registry and Notary Workers' Union today denounced the “recurring constraints” found in the computer applications used by the registries, in particular the application for issuing the Portuguese Electronic Passport (PEP) and demands an urgent resolution.
In a statement released today, the Registry and Notary Workers' Union (STRN) emphasizes that these problems “have seriously affected the quality of service provided to the population and placed workers under unacceptable emotional and psychological pressure”.
“Today, conservatories such as Arruda dos Vinhos and Caldas da Rainha reported critical system malfunctions, a situation that reflects a reality across the country,” he explains.
The union emphasizes that these problems, which have worsened in recent weeks, are causing increasing tension among users, "resulting in unacceptable daily episodes of anger, misunderstanding, threats and hostility directed at workers."
However, the union recalls that workers, “like citizens, are direct victims of technological inefficiency that has been increasing, especially during this critical holiday period, marked by increased demand and a shortage of human resources.”
The STRN states that this situation did not occur when the PEP was under the responsibility of the now-defunct Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF), but, since its transfer to the Institute of Registries and Notaries (IRN), “the system has revealed constant and recurring failures, without there having been, to date, an effective response from the supervisory authority to normalize its operation”.
Faced with these problems, the union urges the IRN Board of Directors to take urgent measures to definitively resolve a problem that affects the functioning of services, seriously harms citizens and puts workers under psychological and emotional pressure.
"The STRN will remain vigilant and active, demanding that measures be implemented to solve this serious problem and restore the dignity of all workers in the sector," he guarantees.
The union also promises to "hold all entities responsible for the maintenance and management of these computer applications accountable for any situations of physical and verbal violence that workers may suffer due to the inaction of these entities."
The union also says that it “will request clarification regarding the serious flaws in computer applications and the security that urgently needs to be promoted and implemented in registration services.”
