PPD/PSD Olhão demands that António Pina resign or serve out his term

The PPD/PSD of Olhão released this Wednesday, August 13, a statement in which it harshly criticizes the Mayor, António Miguel Pina, demanding that he “either resign immediately or fulfill, with dignity, the mandate for which he was elected”.
The controversy arose after Pina, at the inauguration of the Seafood Festival, announced that this would be his last official act as mayor. Despite this statement, he remains in office—a situation that the Social Democrats consider "unacceptable" and "a direct affront to the people of Olhão."
"This situation is a direct affront to the people of Olhão and a clear lack of respect for the mandate entrusted to him," the press release states.
The PSD also accuses António Miguel Pina of having used “means from the municipality of Olhão , including an official vehicle and driver, for electoral campaign purposes” in Faro, where he is a candidate for the presidency of the Municipal Council.
According to the party, the mayor "left the municipality, abandoned his executive functions, stopped handling cases and representing the city, but continued to burden the municipal coffers."
The party also criticizes the vice-president of the Chamber, Ricardo Calé, also a candidate for the local government, who "did not demonstrate the independence or courage necessary to stop this situation", opting for "complicit silence and partisan convenience".
For the Social Democrats, Pina now has two options: "Either he fulfills, seriously and responsibly, until the last day, the mandate entrusted to him, or he immediately resigns."
The statement also warns that “remaining in this position, without exercising functions and using public resources for personal benefit, raises serious doubts about possible crimes, such as embezzlement, and constitutes an intolerable affront to the honor and dignity of Olhão.”
"Olhão will not accept this contempt. Olhão will not tolerate this shame. The PSD will not remain silent," they conclude.
